Tin Cans Were The Inspiration Behind The ‘PaperThin’ Stools By ll’atelier

Tin Cans Were The Inspiration Behind The ‘PaperThin’ Stools By ll’atelier: Netherlands-based designers Lennart and Lauren Leerdam, have created a steel stool that’s inspired by one of the biggest icons in industrial mass production, the classic tin can.

After researching how tin cans are made from rolling a thin metal sheet into a mathematical round shape that’s combined with pressing lines upon the form, the designers took these existing techniques and combined them with modern tools, like 3d printed machine parts and laser cut press molds, to create a piece of modern furniture.

The end result is a stool named ‘Paperthin Original’, that has a simple and modern aesthetic, with details reminiscent of a tin can and a powder-coated finish.
